If you thought you knew the real reason why beloved Love on the Spectrum stars Abbey Romeo and David Isaacman split after nearly five years together, think again!
On April 9, just a week after the premiere of Love on the Spectrum Season 4, Abbey and David, the franchise’s longest-running couple, shocked viewers by revealing that they were no longer together. At the time, The Sun reported that the couple couldn’t “come to an agreement on when to get married.” Now, Abbey’s mom, Christine Romeo, has broken her silence on their split, setting the record straight on what really happened.
Christine recently filmed a YouTube video with Abbey’s cousin Mary, where she shared her perspective on Abbey and David’s split. There, she explained that Season 4 was filmed last summer. “Please don’t judge autistic relationships as if they were typical,” she told viewers. “So many people on the spectrum are not going to do it as typical people do. They’re not in it to get married, get a house, get a new car, have children…”

Looking at their relationship specifically, Christine revealed, “What they had was a great, great thing, and that’s thanks to the show. So smart to get them together with their special interest, which was the glue to open up Abbey socially.”
In her opinion, the public has missed the point of their relationship and their split. “I think they will have a forever bond. There was no fight. By the way, all the headlines: bulls**t,” she explained. “Just so we can be clear on that, there was no fight on engagement or rings getting thrown around. You know, Abbey would say she wanted to get married, which really meant, ‘I want to feel like a normal person in the world and do what they do in their relationships.'”

When it comes down to it, she confirmed, “David was happy in his way of doing life, and Abbey’s was different. And they found that out in this period of time.”
Previously, the couple and their families shared a joint statement, explaining, “Abbey and David spent four and a half years together and truly value the time they shared and each other. At this point, they want different things and have decided to go their separate ways, but they remain friends, wishing each other the best.”
