What To Know

  • Zion (Nathan Mitchell) files for joint custody of Ginny ahead of Season 4.
  • Mitchell teases Zion’s romantic future, where he stands with Ginny, and more Season 4 details.

Ginny & Georgia left both mother and daughter on a major cliffhanger in Season 3. While fans wait for Ginny & Georgia Season 4,  which has already completed filming, star Nathan Mitchell is tiding us over with some details about what’s to come.

By the end of Season 3, Zion (Mitchell) seemingly isn’t part of Georgia’s (Brianne Howey) love web anymore. (Warning: spoilers for Ginny & Georgia Season 3 ahead!) Once she gets away with murder — thanks to Ginny’s (Antonia Gentry) interference — Georgia discovers that she’s pregnant. She slept with both Joe (Raymond Ablack) and her now-ex Paul (Scott Porter), so the father remains a mystery.

But is the door completely shut on Georgia and Zion, who have such a long history? Mitchell says that there’s a love between them that will always be there, but Zion’s trying to “move on and be an adult” in Ginny & Georgia Season 4. He explains to Swooon, “In his heart of hearts, who knows? But just the way everything has unfolded and the things he’s discovered… I don’t know how much of a future there is for Zion and Georgia, as much as I would love there to be, because obviously that family is the heart of the show.”

Of course, Zion’s love interest is still in the picture. With criminal defense lawyer Simone (Vinessa Antoine), Mitchell believes Zion has “found something really amazing.”

“He sees a beautiful future and potential there, and there’s a groundedness and a sense of stability and a calm that he never experienced with Georgia,” he explains. “There’s this peaceful life and future he can see with Simone. And I think he’s probably going in that direction, but I think that Zion and Georgia’s love and their history will always be epic.”

Of course, as Ginny’s father, Zion is still in the Wellsbury circle. Of Zion’s reaction to Georgia’s pregnancy, Mitchell says, “I think he’s going to be like, ‘What? Like, you just got off a murder trial, and now you’re having a baby? That’s a very quick switch.’ He’s with Simone, but I think it’s going to be surprising to him. Not on his bingo card.”

But Zion and Georgia’s relationship primarily revolves around parenting Ginny. At the end of Season 3, Zion files for joint custody. “I don’t think it’s going to be a super tumultuous thing,” Mitchell tells Swooon of how it impacts the parents’ relationship.

“Ginny spends a lot of time at Zion’s anyway, and I think he’s just like, ‘Look. I want to be present in her life, and I want to have the same access to her that you do legally,'” he continues. “It’ll be a little uncomfortable, and it’ll be a little difficult for Georgia, but I think she’ll come to accept it eventually.”

Zion also planned to take a summer trip to Korea with Ginny before Season 3 ends. “We actually shot on location in Korea for five days — I’m also joking,” Mitchell says. “I probably can’t tell you the stuff, but we had a good time. We had a good father-daughter vacation and, obviously, their bond was strained in Season 3, and I think Korea does them some good, and it starts to build their relationship back up.”
