23 Book-to-Screen Adaptations With Romance Being Released in 2026
Romance lovers, rejoice! The rest of the year 2026 is absolutely stacked when it comes to romance adaptations on both the small and big screen!
This next several months will bring all kinds of romance to the table, so whether you love a period drama, a college romance, or literally only read The Hunger Games, the upcoming book-to-screen slate has got you covered. In May alone, two highly anticipated TV adaptations are heading to streamers, with The Other Bennet Sister on BritBox and Off Campus on Prime Video.
Of course, The Other Bennet Sister isn’t the only Jane Austen adaptation fans can look forward to this year, as both Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility are getting a 2026 refresh. With Emma Corrin and Daisy Edgar-Jones heading into the beloved roles of Elizabeth Bennet and Elinor Dashwood, trust us, we will be watching.
For those looking for a more contemporary romance, Off Campus Season 1 follows the ongoing hockey-romance trend, adapting Elle Kennedy’s 2015 novel The Deal. Carley Fortune’s Every Summer After is also getting the Prime Video adaptation treatment in June with Every Year After.

The Other Bennet Sister

The series follows Mary Bennet (Bruccoleri), who is frequently overlooked in light of her stunning sisters, including Pride and Prejudice‘s own Elizabeth Bennet. Based on a novel by Janice Hadlow, The Other Bennet Sister gives the “ugly duckling” of literature’s favorite family her own Darcy — or two.
Off Campus
Premiere Date: May 13 on Prime Video

Hockey romance is here to stay! This May, we’re headed to Briar University to fall in love all over again with music major Hannah Wells (Bright) and hockey captain Garrett Graham (Cameli) from Elle Kennedy’s beloved novel, The Deal. Introducing a cast of characters that readers know and love, this Bridgerton-style series will follow a new couple every season. Full of laughs, love, and yes, a smidge of hockey, this college romance adaptation has something for fans of the book series and newcomers alike!
Rivals Season 2
Release Date: May 15 on Hulu (Season 2 will consist of 12 episodes and will be split into two parts. The first three episodes will drop on the premiere date, followed by one episode weekly. The second half of the season will premiere later this year.)

From Rupert (Hassell) and Taggie’s (Maclean) undeniable feelings to Declan (Turner) and Maud’s (Smurfit) rocky marriage, the second season of the Hulu/Disney+ series will get your blood pumping and heart racing.
Every Year After

If you’re looking for somewhere to go after spending your time at Cousin’s Beach in The Summer I Turned Pretty, look no further than Barry’s Bay in Every Year After for this summer’s romance adaptation destination! Every Year After, based on Carley Fortune’s Every Summer After, follows Percy (Soverall) during six summers in her childhood and one weekend in the present day, when she is reunited with her lakeside neighbor and first love, Sam (Cornett). Making you believe in love and ripping your heart out all at once, Every Year After is bound to hit you right in the feels — in the best way possible.
Sweet Magnolias Season 5

The Spanish movie adaptation of author Mercedes Ron’s Culpa Mía series became a global sensation. Prime Video’s English version, My Fault: London, found its own success in 2025, with Noah (Banks) and Nick’s (Broome) forbidden love story racing into romance lovers’ hearts. The sequel movie, Your Fault: London, will continue the step-siblings’ journey. They’re more in love than ever, but they’re being pulled in different directions: Noah to Oxford, and Nick to his work. When new connections cause cracks to form in their relationship, Nick and Noah have to decide if it’s worth fighting for. Prepare yourself for some serious angst!
Heartstopper Forever
Premiere Date: July 17 on Netflix

The last chapter of Nick and Charlie’s love story will be told in Heartstopper Forever. When the film begins, Nick and Charlie are inseparable, but complications arise as they navigate a long-distance relationship. The movie will be based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novel, Heartstopper Volume 6, which will be released on July 7.
Pride and Prejudice
Premiere Date: Fall 2026 on Netflix

“It is a truth universally acknowledged” that a romance lover will be thrilled for any and all Pride and Prejudice adaptations that come their way. However, the Netflix adaptation of the Jane Austen classic is particularly exciting, as Dolly Alderton, author of the beloved memoir Everything I Know About Love, is at the wheel. Elizabeth (Corrin) and Mr. Darcy (Lowden) could not be in better hands!
Verity
Premiere Date: October 2, 2026, in theaters

Another Colleen Hoover adaptation is hitting theaters this year with her fan-favorite psychological thriller, Verity. The story follows, Lowen (Johnson), a writer who is hired to complete Verity Crawford’s (Hathaway) bestselling series. Cue: Secrets galore!
Sense and Sensibility
Premiere Date: October 16, 2026, in theaters
Cast: Daisy Edgar-Jones, Esmé Creed-Miles, Caitríona Balfe, Frank Dillane, Herbert Nordrum, Bodhi Rae Breathnach, George MacKay, and Fiona Shaw
RIP Jane Austen, you really would have loved the 2026 book-to-screen adaptation slate. Sense and Sensibility is also getting a new adaptation this fall, starring Normal People lead Daisy Edgar-Jones, who, ironically, has been cast as Elinor Dashwood, not Marianne. Little is known about this adaptation so far.
Sunrise on the Reaping
Premiere Date: November 20, 2026, in theaters
Cast: Joseph Zada, McKenna Grace, Whitney Peak, Jesse Plemons, Ralph Fiennes, Maya Hawke, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Elle Fanning, Kieran Culkin

Paris Is Always a Good Idea

Chabert and Foster team up for a six-episode adaptation of Jenn McKinlay’s bestselling romance novel. But when she gets a heartfelt message from her late mother, Chelsea goes on a life-changing journey to reconnect with the three great loves she left behind.
My Life with the Walter Boys Season 3

The Mercedes Ron cinematic universe keeps getting bigger at Prime Video! And with Drawn Together, which will be published in English in September 2026, the author is making her adult romance debut. Student and ballerina Marfil (Expósito) is the daughter of a powerful businessman. When she’s abducted in Central Park, Marfil wakes up in a New Orleans hospital and remembers nothing of what happened. Her father hires an uber-disciplined bodyguard (García) to watch over her. Cue an enemies-to-lovers arc and the forced proximity trope!
Black Dagger Brotherhood Season 2
Premiere Date: TBA 2026 on Passionflix
Cast: Alexander Cubis and Audrey Hare
The hit vampire show, based on J.R. Ward’s bestselling book series, is turning the page on the next love story in Season 2. Based on Lover Eternal, the second season will chronicle Rhage (Cubis) and Mary’s (Hare) romance.
In a Holidaze
Premiere Date: TBA 2026 on Netflix
Cast: Maddie Ziegler, Rob Lowe, Graham Phillips, and Elias Kacavas
Holiday romance? Sign us up. In a Holidaze is based on the 2020 romance novel by Christina Lauren. After making a romantic mistake she wishes she could undo, our directionless female protagonist finds herself in a holiday time loop, where she has to relive the same Christmas at her family’s cabin until she figures out what makes her happy. Naturally, love is a part of the journey.
Guarding Stars
Premiere Date: TBA 2026 on Netflix
Cast: Jared Padalecki, Leighton Meester, Andie MacDowell, Walker Hayes, Noah LaLonde, Toby Sandeman
Katherine Center’s novels were made to be rom-coms, and we can’t think of a better novel to adapt than The Bodyguard, which is coming to Netflix as Guarding Stars. Another twist, this star-studded adaptation will be framed as a Christmas movie!
The Love Hypothesis
Premiere Date: TBA 2026
Cast: Lili Reinhart, Tom Bateman, Rachel Marsh, Nicholas Duvernay, Jaboukie Young-White, and Arty Froushan
We don’t have a premiere date for the first Ali Hazelwood adaptation yet, but Lili Reinhart has promised the movie will be released in 2026. This nerdy love story follows Olive (Reinhart), a PhD student, and a hot professor (Bateman), who embark on a fake relationship to test their own theories about love. We’re giving this one an A+ in the romance department.
Maxton Hall — The World Between Us Season 3
Premiere Date: TBA 2026 on Prime Video
Cast: Harriet Herbig-Matten, Damian Hardung, Sonja Weißer, Eidin Jalali, Andrea Guo, Esmael Agostinho, Ben Felipe, Justus Riesner, Govinda Gabriel Cholleti, Dagny Dewath, and Fedja van Huêt.
Prime Video is predicted to release the final season of its mega-hit German-language series later this year. Season 3 will adapt the final book of Mona Kasten’s Maxton Hall trilogy, picking up with Ruby (Herbig-Matten) still reeling from being suspended from school under false charges. To make matters worse, it appears that James may be responsible. Just when he and Ruby had finally gotten to a solid place in their relationship, too. Ruby’s dream of attending Oxford is at stake, and so is Ruby and James’ relationship. Book fans know they’re in for a bumpy (yet swoonworthy) ride!
Unaccustomed Earth

The Map of Longing

Based on Alice Kellen’s novel of the same name, this tale of love and grief follows Greta, who is reeling from the loss of her beloved sister, Lucy.
