‘Off Campus’ Trailer Study Session: Breaking Down the 9 Major Book Moments

Mentally, we’ll be enrolled at Briar U until further notice. Off CampusPrime Video’s upcoming college hockey romance series, just released its first official trailer, giving viewers their latest look at Garrett Graham (Belmont Cameli) and Hannah Wells’ (Ella Bright) romance. If you’re here, you likely already know that Season 1 is based on Elle Kennedy’s The Deal, which sees Briar U’s star hockey player fake-date music major Hannah. She agrees to tutor Garrett in exchange for making her crush jealous. Naturally, they grow closer and fall for each other.

Each of Kennedy’s Off Campus books tells a love story of a different hockey player — including Garrett’s roommates Logan (Antonio Cipriano), Dean (Stephen Kalyn), and Tucker (Jalen Thomas Brooks), who will all be introduced in Season 1. Swooon has already watched the trailer way too many times, and we’ve picked out all of the most major moments that appear to have been pulled straight from the book. Plus, some that aren’t — we can’t be the only ones that noticed that Dean and Allie (Mika Abdalla) tease!

Dean & Allie tease

Before we get into the Hannah and Garrett of it all, we need to spend a moment screaming about the Dean and Allie crumbs. Um, Hannah saying her song is about “being in love with someone who doesn’t see you,” and then it IMMEDIATELY cuts to Dean watching Allie dance at a party? Extremely buzzy for fans of Kennedy’s The Score. It makes us wonder just how much DeanAllie we’ll get in Season 1, even though their book comes third in Kennedy’s series.

Garrett & Hannah's first time

These shots have to be from Chapters 24 and 25, right? After growing closer to Garrett during their study sessions, Hannah propositions him. She hasn’t been able to get off with a guy since she was sexually assaulted in high school, which she shares with Garrett. He agrees to help, but when they’re getting down to business later, Garrett notices Hannah isn’t ready to go all the way. They take a break to talk about trust, and Garrett suggests they watch each other get themselves off from across the room. I mean, just look at their faces in these clips — we have to assume that book scene will make it into the show.

Making Justin jealous at Beau's party

In the book, Garrett hates Halloween. He and Hannah skip out on the festivities and have a heart-to-heart — but it looks like the show may combine Beau’s birthday party with Halloween, which take place in different chapters. Or maybe Beau’s throwing a costume party for his birthday? Who’s to say? But, in the book, Garrett suggests that they go to Beau’s birthday bash, knowing that Justin (Josh Heuston), her crush, will be there. Surely, that bunny costume Hannah’s wearing in the trailer will help, too.

Kissing practice

The famous kissing practice scene! In the book, Garrett thinks they need to test the kissing waters to make their fake relationship seem more real. Hannah resists at first, but she can’t back down from a challenge. When Dean walks in on them, Hannah makes up the excuse that Garrett’s helping her brush up on her kissing skills. Dean calls her bluff, so she plants one on him, too. In the trailer, we only see the beginning stages of the scene, rather than the kiss itself. It looks like it’s taking place in the weight room rather than Garrett’s bedroom, too, and there’s no sign of Dean yet. But readers know what’s (hopefully) coming!

"Wellsy"

The scream we scrumpt when we heard Garrett Graham call Hannah “Wellsy” for the first time! It’s not totally clear if the trailer’s “What do you want, Wellsy” moment is a scene from the book — though it very well could be from their first time. Garrett says it shirtless and hovering over Hannah, after all. Regardless, the nickname drop deserves a shoutout!

Hannah's lasagna

Who could forget Hannah’s famous lasagna? In the book, she uses her grandma’s recipe to feed the guys when they get home from practice. It’s so good that even the group’s resident chef, Tucker, is impressed. It’s peak found family wholesomeness, and it looks like the show will serve that up, too! Book fans are being fed, truly.

Hannah & Garrett's car scene

This one isn’t totally obvious, but we think it could be Hannah and Garrett’s car moment after they spend Thanksgiving with Garrett’s dad (Steve Howey), who abused him when he was younger. Before they leave, Garrett realizes that Phil is abusing his new girlfriend, and Phil demands that Garrett break up with Hannah. Hannah consoles her boyfriend on the car ride home. Readers know that the emotional moment becomes a heated one, and Hannah and Garrett pull over to the side of the road to… you know.

Garrett & Hannah's post-study session sleepover

Again, not totally sure if this is the exact book scene we’re thinking of, but it could be Chapter 11, when Hannah stays over at Garrett’s after study session. They binge way too many episodes of Breaking Bad, and before they know it, it’s too late for Hannah to get a ride home. In the book, Garrett’s bed is so enormous that Hannah doesn’t have many qualms about sharing. She points out that a gentleman would offer to sleep on the floor. “Do I look like a gentleman to you?” Garrett quips. We aren’t sure how both Hannah and Garrett wind up on the floor in the show, but we aren’t mad about it. They’re too cute!

Hannah does karaoke

This has to be Chapter 19’s karaoke scene. Hannah and Garrett meet the rest of the hockey guys at Malone’s in Chapter 19, and Hannah lets loose. She does “drunk girl karaoke,” belting “Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga. “I find myself grinning like an idiot as I gaze at the stage,” Garrett thinks. Cameli’s got Garrett’s besotted look down!
