What To Know

  • If renewed, Season 2 of Every Year After would adapt Carley Fortune’s One Golden Summer.
  • The second season would focus on Charlie Florek’s love story with Alice Everly.
  • The showrunner envisions more seasons that go beyond Fortune’s novels.

Ahead of the Every Year After Season 1 premiere, showrunner Amy B. Harris has revealed her big plans to keep viewers visiting Barry’s Bay through Season 2 and beyond!

Season 1 of the summer romance adaptation, which premieres on June 10, follows the plot of Carley Fortune’s Every Summer After. Told over the course of six years and one week in Barry’s Bay, the first season introduces viewers to the Canadian lake town, along with Percy Fraser (Sadie Soverall) and the Florek brothers, Sam (Matt Cornett) and Charlie (Michael Bradway). While Season 1 follows Percy and Sam’s reconnection, the second book in the series, One Golden Summer, shifts focus towards Charlie’s love story with a new character.

“I really see this as a series,” Harris told EW. “It’s why we built it the way we did, so that we can come back and explore a lot more romance.” Shocking readers of the duology, Harris shared, “I see five seasons.”

Has Every Year After been renewed for Season 2?

Unlike Prime Video’s Off Campus and Elle, Every Year After has not received a pre-Season 1 renewal. Of course, this does not mean that Every Year After will not be renewed after a successful first season. With so many fans already eager to see One Golden Summer hit our screens, we’d guess Season 2 is on the horizon.

Would Season 2 follow One Golden Summer?

Yes, if given a Season 2, Every Year After will venture into the plot of One Golden Summer. Harris called One Golden Summer the blueprint for Season 2 in a recent interview, sharing, “Obviously, there’s another book that’s connected to Barry’s Bay that I think will be a very exciting blueprint for us for a potential Season 2.”

One Golden Summer introduces readers to Alice Everly, an introverted photographer who returns to Barry’s Bay for the summer with her grandma after visiting as a teen over a decade ago. That summer years ago, Alice snapped a picture of two brothers and a girl on a bright yellow boat, speeding past on the lake. Sound familiar?

Bradway, whose character Charlie is the romantic lead of One Golden Summer, previously told Swooon, “You know, there’s a couple of things that we put into the show, the first season, that are kind of little One Golden Summer Easter eggs and teasers.”

Will Every Year After be more than two seasons?

While Fortune has only written two books about Barry’s Bay, Harris revealed that she has big plans for more than two seasons of Every Year After. Harris told EW, “We have these six main characters, and I think we’ll be adding characters as the seasons go on… We have lots more to say both about Percy and Sam’s love story, but also about these other characters who hopefully people will come to love as much as they do Percy and Sam.”

She continued, “Even if you end up in a happy relationship, relationships are a lot of work, and they don’t come easily. And I think that’s also interesting to explore. I think Barry’s Bay has a lot more story to tell.”

Who will return for Season 2?

While we’ll have to wait for a Season 2 renewal for official cast confirmation, Harris made it clear that the “six main characters” would return for potential future seasons. This includes Sadie Soverall as Percy, Matt Cornett as Sam, Michael Bradway as Charlie, Joseph Chiu as Jordie, Abigail Cowen as Delilah, and Aurora Perrineau as Chantal. The only question is, who will play Alice Everly?
