Sean Cavanaugh, Braden Pridemore, and Brett Maverick had some major decisions to make during the Season 4 premiere of Farmer Wants a Wife.
The premiere episode, which aired on Tuesday, April 21, saw the three leads meet their groups of contestants for the first time. As in seasons past, the bachelors had only a few minutes to speed-date their lucky ladies and ultimately select five to return with them to their farm.
“I thought it was extremely difficult. You get 10 minutes with each one of these girls, and that’s a short amount of time to really get to know somebody,” Braden exclusively told Swooon ahead of the premiere. “So, really picking the right ones was really tough, and you kind of gotta just go out on a limb and just pick the ones that kind of stuck out to you.”
Reflecting on their first day, Sean said he and his fellow farmers loosened up as they began their conversations with the contestants. “After a while, we had the opportunity to sit down with each of them, one-on-one, and speed-date them for about 10 minutes. And I think after that point, we all realized, they’re just normal people, just like us, and there’s no reason to be nervous,” he shared.
Brett made a big decision early on, inviting one of his contestants, Hanna Carpenter, to join him on his farm immediately after their first chat. “Hanna’s personality is amazing. So, right off the jump, we had a really good connection,” he told Swooon. “And she’s the type that, you know, she doesn’t meet a stranger. So, being that engaging and just having a really good conversation, and it being fun and light, stood out a whole lot. To me, she was an easy choice for the first pick.”

One of Sean’s contestants, Kamryn Kauffman, opened up to the farmer about being a mother. Though fatherhood is in the 22-year-old’s future plans, he told Swooon, “I feel like it’s irresponsible for me to take on the role of a stepfather when I’m still kind of piecing together my life.” Ultimately, Sean did not pick Kamryn as one of his five women for the farm.
Later in the episode, Brett’s contestant Lauren Cannizzo made the surprise decision to swap farmers and shoot her shot with Braden. The risky move paid off when Braden chose her to come back to his farm.
“I was mad at her. Nah, I’m just kidding,” Brett joked before stating, “We are the leads of the show, but this show isn’t just about us. It’s about the girls that are involved, as well. I think that she kind of knew that there wasn’t really a connection with us, and she had one with Braden, or at least wanted to explore that, so she went for it. And you can’t blame somebody for going after something they want.”
Braden, for his part, added, “That was definitely a massive curveball, something I was not expecting at all. And like I said, again, it’s really hard, especially when that happens, to know you’re making the right decision. But with Lauren, she made a good case for herself. She said, ‘We’re all here to find somebody.’ And like Brett said, we are the leads, but the show’s not just about us. She took a chance on me, so I decided to take a chance on her.”
The season premiere concluded with each farmer selecting their final five women and deciding which one to take on their first solo date. As for what’s to come this season, Braden told Swooon fans they can expect a lot of “authentic” moments.

“I think it’s a lot of real emotion, and I can confidently say with these guys, what you see is what you get,” he shared. “I mean, these are real dudes, and this is real farm life. It really is. And so, I think that’s a cool, cool thing with this season.”
Brett noted, “All three of us went into it with the mindset of, ‘We’re going to do this the right way, and we’re actually looking for someone.’ So, you’re going to get to see a lot of raw emotion. You’re going to see a lot of fun and drama. But yeah, I think that everybody’s going to be happy with the outcome of the show.”
